FAQS

CANDLE WICK FAQ'S

Q: After burning, my wick has a “ball of black” on it which crumbles down. What is this?

A: This “ball of black” is called mushrooming. All wicks will produce carbon when they are burning; some more than others. This mushrooming effect will be reduced if you make sure to trim your wick down before each time it is burned.

Q: What is the proper length to keep my wick at?

A: Also keep your wick trimmed to 1/8" to 1/4" before each burn session.

WAX/CANDLE FAQ'S

Q: Does my candle have a shelf life?

A: Our candle/warmer tarts have a shelf life of about 2 years when stored properly.

Q: What do you scent your candles with?

A: Our candles are scented with a blend of essential and fragrance oils that are free from phthalates, carcinogens, reproductive toxins and other hazardous chemicals often found in store bought candles. All oil blends have received a IFRA Certificate of Safety and we refuse to use anything that requires a Prop 65 warning. We are committed to maintaining the safest, highest quality, most thoroughly tested candles on the market.

We are also hard at work creating our "Aromatherapy" line which will only include all natural, essential oils. Working with oils that can easily degrade when not used properly is tricky and we want to make sure that we get it right before we provide this new line to you. Stay tuned!

Q: What is the proper way to burn Seventh House's Candles?

A: We recommend each burn session to last no less than 4 hours. Always allow the melt pool to reach the edges of the glass jar before extinguishing. This will allow it to burn evenly and not tunnel.

Be sure to NEVER leave a candle burning unattended or in reach of children, pets or a draft of air. Allow candle jar to cool completely before handling.

Q: Where do you source your wax and which kind do you use?

A: We use either 100% all natural Soy or Coconut Wax. We flip between the two depending on availability. Both Soy and Coconut Wax is better not only for the health of you and your family but also for the planet. They are renewable, clean and provide agricultural jobs for American Farmers.

Soy's greatest advantage is that it is completely renewable. While the global reserves of oil shrink and paraffin prices increase, the only limit to the soy supply is how much we choose to grow. The soy that is sold today was likely in the ground less than a year ago. And chances are that same field is growing more soy for our candles to be made in the future.

In addition to sustainability, a well-made soy candle; like one from Seventh House, will burn cleanly and slowly. While the performance and beauty of soy candles speak for themselves, soy wax is eco-friendly, renewable, American grown, sustainable, carbon neutral; the list goes on and on.

We source our wax from several different, American Based Companies.
